About Us

Our Mission

The mission of the St. Patrick's Day Foundation is to support the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade and related activities, and to celebrate the contributions of the Irish to American society, with student scholarships, educational initiatives, publications and an ambitious year round program of social and cultural events.

The History of the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade

The first New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade stepped off lower Broadway on March 17th, 1762, fourteen years before the Declaration of Independence was adopted.  Two hundred and fifteen years later the parade is considered the largest parade in the world, with two hundred thousand marchers and more than two million spectators lining Fifth Avenue to watch the annual pilgamage up Fifth Avenue.  The television broadcast of the parade connects over 1.5 million houshold viewers with this extraordinary tradition.  The web-streaming of the parade, which began in 2008, expand the impact of the parade worldwide.

Getting Involved with the St. Patrick's Day Foundation

The Foundation will leverage the extraordinary goodwill from the Parade and it's traditions to launch a program of cultural and educational initiatives which will engage all New Yorkers.  Your financial support and personal involvement in the St. Patrick's Day Foundation is crucial to it's success.
